These sculptures depict an ancient god of war who mysteriously appears among different peoples. It is unknown why this figure haunts so many vanished cultures, or which animal it represents. Many legendary heroes trace their lineage to this being. A surviving inscription may preserve a prayer:
“This is our father… the first beast. My knife is his fang; he sees through my enemies’ eyes and suffers no cowardice.”
