ARTEM TAIUPOV
SERENITY
About the project
The painting explores the emotional and physical duality of a Georgian queer performer in two states: in drag — bold, radiant, almost like armor — and after the show, without makeup or costume, simply present in their own body. This visual contrast speaks to the quiet space between performance and self, where strength gives way to tenderness. The drag image shines with power and pride, but it’s in the bare figure that we sense something deeper — the soft, real presence of a person beyond the stage. In a country where queer lives are often politicized or erased, this intimacy becomes meaningful. The work reflects on how identity is not only what we show, but what we hold in silence — the beauty of being seen in both power and vulnerability.
