POLINA FILATOVA
FLAG
About the project
The transparent flag is a symbol of any new country encountered by a relocant.
The structure of each new place begins to resemble the ones before it.
As one moves and explores new places, the concept of «my country» fades away.
Now, you’re a guest everywhere, and the politics of the country you’re visiting no longer feel hostile — you’re detached from it, just as you’ve become detached from the politics of your once-native land, if you’ve left it.
«Where are you from?»
This question now makes you pause.

About the artist
There is no face of modernity in the portrait, the portrait with contemporary art does not coincide with a person. Like on a black-and-white printer: only one black color.. The starting point of the idea is that a person in modernity can no longer hear themselves, and in whose mouth my first solo project “White Noise” is born — in the question: what happens to the image when it disappears? What does a person hear when they listen and not speak, when they try to be silent?
In the white noise, like in blindness, the human portrait becomes a surface. The portrait of modernity is strictly made of one color — white. Silence, emptiness, white light, the feeling of will — all disappear faster than anything else. Modernity cannot define them. The portrait of modernity is a body turned inside out, incapable of leaving a trace. White noise is the total externalization of any kind of information, and therefore I started working with white paint, which became the material for shaping the image.
