KAREN PAPIKIAN
SQUARE
About the project
SQUARE is a vivid mixed media piece exploring the chaos of urban life, inspired by Tbilisi. Through bright colors and surreal figures—creatures, monsters, fragments of stories—it captures the fast, sometimes overwhelming energy of the city.

Slightly off-center, a thick white square cuts through the chaos. It symbolizes a space of peace and isolation—a moment of stillness in the noise.

The work reflects the duality of modern existence: anxiety and calm, horror and beauty, motion and silence. It’s not only about the city, but about the human experience within it—inviting viewers to find their own quiet space in the madness.

About the artist
My name is Karen Papikian, I’m 29 years old and I live in Tbilisi, Georgia. I work in abstract and neo-expressionist styles. The main themes in my paintings are loneliness, madness, love, and raw emotions. When I paint, I don’t start with a clear meaning—I let my hand move freely, following the strokes and the energy of the moment. I throw my emotions onto the canvas without overthinking. The meaning usually appears later, sometimes when the painting is already finished. For me, it’s all about honesty, feeling, and giving space for the chaos inside to take form.
