About the atelier
RUBEZH is a self-funded international project and community for émigré artists. Since 2022, we have brought together artists born in more than 25 countries and now based across five continents. Through exhibitions, residencies, festivals, talks, workshops, and shared spaces, we help artists continue their practice, build connections, and support one another
Our atelier in Tbilisi is RUBEZH’s home base. Opened in 2024, it is a place where artists work, meet, share knowledge, show new projects, find collaborators, and simply spend time together. We host exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, screenings, and community events here. This is also where our new atelier residency program takes place.

The Space
The atelier is a compact basement space near Marjanishvili metro, with white walls and a glass entrance door. It has tables and chairs, Wi-Fi, electricity, a kettle, basic tools, space for storing materials and artworks, as well as a bathroom and shower. The space can be adapted for different kinds of work, small exhibitions, and public events.
About the Residency Program
The RUBEZH Atelier Residency is a two-week program for an artist who needs focused time and a change of environment to work on a new or ongoing project. It combines independent practice with curatorial support and connection to the RUBEZH community. The process matters more than a finished result: the residency is a chance to test ideas, develop the work, and share it with others.

RESIDENCY FORMAT
- Duration: Two weeks
- Atelier Access: Daily from 11:00 to 17:30; other hours by agreement
- Personal key for the duration of the residency
- Location: Near Marjanishvili metro, Tbilisi
- Fee: Free of charge
Curatorial Support
At the beginning of the residency, the artist meets with the curator to discuss the project, set priorities for the two weeks, and agree on a working rhythm. Further meetings are arranged as needed. The process remains flexible and free of pressure: the curator does not impose a direction, and the artist can change the plan as the work develops.

Publications
During the residency, we will prepare publications about the artist, their practice, and the project for RUBEZH’s website and social media. They will document the process, introduce the artist to our wider audience, and share information about related events.

Artists bring their own project materials and specific tools. Please inform us in advance about noise, dust, strong smells, hazardous materials, or any fixings to walls, floors, or ceilings.

Q&A
There are no restrictions based on age, gender, nationality, background, or artistic medium. Applicants must be in Tbilisi for the entire residency and able to work at the atelier regularly. Daily attendance is encouraged.
No. The residency is free of charge.
A portfolio, CV, short description of a current or planned project, and a motivation letter.
Artists cover their own materials, project-specific tools, production costs, accommodation, meals, and travel.
Yes. By prior agreement, you may invite artists, curators, and other guests or organize a talk, workshop, screening, or other small event.
Applications are reviewed by the RUBEZH team and two invited experts. We consider the portfolio, project, motivation, and plans for using the atelier.
No. The final open studio may present the working process or an intermediate or final result.
You will receive a personal key and can work from 11:00 to 17:30. Other hours are possible by agreement. The atelier may occasionally host evening events.
